This pass weekend I attend the BlogHer Conference. Overall I had a pretty nice experience as a newbie. It was wonderful seeing some familiar faces from my Blogging While Brown fam. For those of you who don’t know Blogher is the largest conference for women in social media. An estimate 2000+ women and men attended the conference which was held at the Hilton Hotel right here in New York City. There were tons of great sessions and I wish I had a clone so I could have attend them all. The three that I went to were amazing and chock full of great information.
ROYO – Offline Networking for Blogger With Taryn P.
Networking for me can be terrifying at time but I am so motivated after attending this session. I learned about setting goals and tips on how to pump myself before events. I believe now I more ready to go out and conquered the world.
Professional Blogging: Your Stats Are a Business Asset with Nancy M., Adria R., Keidra C. and Stephanie S.
This was session phenomenal. So many great tips and I tried my best to tweet them all. We learned about tools to make your blog great (there’s more than Google Analytics) and how to understand the information you are collecting.
Get and Stay Hired: Social Media and Technical Skills in Today’s Job Market with Kelly F., Leila B., and Kimberly B.
Another great session, where we learned how to stand out when going for job, and what some of the new tech skills you may need to learn. My interest really peak when someone in the audience mention the death of flash with the birth of HTML5 and CSS3 and the battle of #teamblackberry and #teamiphone made a brief appearance.
In between the session I was back and forth from the Expo and the sponsors suites. The S’mores room I think was a big hit. They went all out with changing the suite to give you an outdoors/camping type feel. I heard about the amount of swag you get from the conversations on twitter but I was totally not prepared. My arms and legs really got a workout. It was kind of weird attending a conference in the same city that I live in. It was hard to balance my everyday life and events going on. At the end I met some great people, had interesting conversations and cool experiences to go along with it all.
