Vanity Fair (January 2010): America’a Tweethearts

The first week of the New Year is already behind us. Who knew that is would be so full of surprises and interesting stories. One of the stories that stuck a cord with me was the reaction to a recent Vanity Fair article featuring several “Twilebrites” (author’s word not mines). There were tons of different reactions on my twitter stream that I just had to go read the article for myself.

I am not an avid reader of the magazine but I am avid user of Twitter and follow at least two of the young ladies featured. I don’t feel that the article painted the ladies in the best of light. As mention before I follow two of the young ladies and their tweets are far from “getting highlights before class”. Twitter is a different type of medium that people are using to connect with a mass amount of people. I personally have met and connect with a few people in real life as well as online. I have learned a lot from them. Yes, there are a people who may use Twitter to broadcast what they are eating for breakfast. However, that probably a small amount of what goes on out twitter. I think maybe if the author of the article took a little more time to see into Twitter the way these ladies do the article would have gone in a totally different direction. When will we start moving away from “Sex sells everything” – it’s 2010; let’s start using our brains.
