It’s the beginning of the new year and online marketing is on the top of everyone minds. More importantly what are the best ways to marketing online with the best return. Someone ask me the other day since they notice I start marketing my services more on twitter, do I get most of my clients from there or my blog? I thought about and realize that I never tracked where I get design requests from.
I took the time out to see and (not including family/friends) I have gotten most of my design work from Social Media and referrals. I can only imagine how far I can go if I really step up my marketing game. This will be something I definitive will be keeping track of going forward. You have to know where you should focus your energy.
Here’s 2 ways that has help me so far.
Everyone has a profile on at least one of the popular social networking site. Some people are even creating and building their own networks with Ning. Maybe you have noticed that many people have started using social media to marketing their businesses online. One important tip I learned is that you don’t have to be active on every single site. Go where your ideal clients are. If they’re on twitter, start a professional Twitter account. If they’re on Facebook, start a page or open account that would be only for business. You also might want to look into secure your business name across all the social networking sites even if you aren’t going to use them at this moment. One tool for that is knowem.com.
You need a space online that you can call your own, your online hub. This can be your website/blog. Everyone is starting to move away from your old traditional static site that hardly ever gets updated. They are turning to CMS or Content Management Systems. For example, you can used a system like WordPress to create your entire website and not just for your blog. The best thing about using systems like WordPress is that your site will be more manageable and if you add the blog component you will be able to interact with your customers more.
