At the beginning of this month, it was announced that Facebook was moving forward with adding the Timeline layout (similar to what you have on your regular FB Profiles) on their FB Pages. You currently have the opportunity now to play around with it before you are forced to make the switch. Over the past weeks I heard a lot of mixed reviews. Some are welcoming the change, while others are freaking out because they manage more than one. The change goes way beyond just the implementation of a cover image and profile picture. Facebook has laid out some new rules that state what can and cannot go on that cover image.
Myself, I was freaking out at first because I just did a Facebook Page Banner for a client and was in the mist of working on another. So I had to stop and go back redo some of the work but also make sure that I was designing to meet the new requirements. Here are some of the things you cannot have on your cover image.
- No call to actions such as “Please like my page”, “Share this page with your friends”, “Like my page and you will receive a free gift”, etc.
- No contact information and that includes phone number, address, site urls
- No price or purchasing information
You can read in detail about the new rules on their site. I have also been told that they are doing away with landing pages. I know a lot of people who uses these, so I am not 100% sure how this will (if at all) affect them. Here are two more sources on how the changes will affect small business like us.

So far the only problem I have with FB is that after you uploaded the cover image, the quality get lowered and the image is requirement to be at certain size even though it get cropped. I am still looking for a work around for this. Last week I took some time to decide how I would revise my Facebook Page Banner service. I am going to keep the price the same but will now provide two images instead of one. Moving forward, anyone who purchases this service will get a cover image and profile image designed.
Here are a few that I recently design for clients of mines.
If you are looking to make the change, from my experience so far the profile image is 180 pixels by 180 pixels. I haven’t seen a definite size for the cover image but it seem as though the minimum size is 720 pixels by 399.
Or if you are interest in working with me, I would be happy to design the graphics for you. You can purchase my Facebook Page Banner Services below and here’s a code you can use: face12.
