After checking out a two business centers (The Regent 3rd Ave Business Center and the SAGE Office Suites), I felt it was time to check out a few actual Coworking locations. There is a very different vibe between the two. The business centers you may be in an office by yourself or a shared space, were as with the Coworking spaces have an more open layout. So you may work at a private desk or shared desk. So I went on Loosecubes and booked my second stop on my #loosesummer journey – REV.
The REV is a Coworking space located in the meatpacking district in Manhattan. I was able to find the place with no problem, which is unusual for me. I tend to get lost in the city. I always second guess myself going in the opposite direction. Anyways, the REV is on the lower level of a very cool furniture store. This allows them to have a very spacious layout and kick ass furniture for the space.
For example, here is an picture of the chair similar to the one I work from the day I went. Its very comfy and I think the sides zip off to have a regular chair. In the desk part there is a power strip so you can stay juiced up all day. It gave me the sense of privacy, so I totally zone out and got to work. There are other sitting areas. I like the long desk in the center where you can either sit or stand while you work.
The hosts were very nice and it was pretty quiet for the most part. Everyone was working away. I got a lot done, even was able to make a phone call with no problem. I saw in the reviews that some people had a problem with getting a phone signal. I can’t forget to mention the free snacks – you can’t be that. They are also open on Saturdays and allow for meetings.
The price to work there are a little out of my reach, I would prefer a drop-in daily rate. However, the experience working was great. The high-line is not that far from there (Apple Store is just down the block). I also wish there were more options to get a bite to eat. I am a very picky eater and since I am trying to eat healthy, it was a little hard to avoid temptation. Please check them out, they do have a 1-day free pass.
Cost of Coworking at the REV*: $4.50
Cost of running Operation CoWork (as of 6/20/12): $49.50
*As a part of the Loosecubes Summer Challenge, I was able to check out this location free of charge, so cost only includes transportation.
