Yesterday, I took a look back on my business for the last six months. Today is my blog’s turns. A lot has changes since January and there will be more change on the way. So where do I began. Last year I decided to make the leap in to monetizing this blog, which is a process in of itself. You must do your homework and experiment with several options to see what is right for you, your readers and your blog. As you may have notices I got Google Adsense ads displaying. It felt like it took forever and a day to fix my problem with them.
Adsense kept saying I had account already which I don’t remember doing. Long story short – figured out how to get back into that email, switch account over to current email and now I got ads. Prior to January 1, 2012 I had earned $9.14. I need to make $100 before I can cash out (received) my money. So far the month of February has been the best but since then it has gone down, up and then back down. My goal is to get to reach $100 by the end of the year, I’m at $40 even right now.
My personal recommendation: I won’t place Google Adsense on certain types of sites such as portfolios and business websites (even if you have a blog with it). I’ve heard plenty people say its a turn off. There’s other ways to monetizing your site.
Staying on the topic of monetization for a little bit, other methods I have or are currently trying are: Sponsored Posts (paid to talk or review a product/services) and selling my own ad space. I haven’t done any sponsored posts yet this year, hopefully that will changed soon. I love learning about new things and sharing it. Selling ad space is still in the being stages but I see big things happening there. I still do Affiliate Marketing (selling other people products) but I am still figuring out which ones people like and are a best fit.
My personal recommendation: Affiliate Marketing may be the way to go if you have a business website with or without a blog component. You get the option to using text links so you don’t clutter your business site with tons of banners. The key would be to only promote product and services that align with that you are doing. For example: Your business deal with marketing. Why don’t you look into company that do promotional items like buttons and shirts.
Now on the the biggest hurdle in blogging – finding things to write about. I have fallen in love with my blog post series, where I would write about a particularly theme. I have several now – My Freelance Life, Operation Cowork, Operation FitCEOs and the people’s favorite Savvy Professional Profiles. Last month I kicked off my profile series. The first two has already got well over 75 views since their debut. I can’t wait to share thee rest of the line-up with your guys.
Last but not least, I think I am due for another redesign. I think I’m a bit bore with the look and been thinking about switching the colors as well as the comment system. Right now I’m using Disqus which I like but it missing on thing – allowing for cross promotion. I would love to allow my commentators to show off their more recent posts. Maybe I would get more comments and return visitors.
I really want to make this blog the best is can be. Now its your turn, how is your blogging been this year? I want to know your goals.
