I was recently told that self-care doesn’t have to always be about spa days and pampering yourself. It can truly be the simplest thing like going to bed a little earlier or drinking more water. I always thought I didn’t have time for luxuries while running my business. Boy, was I wrong! This got me thinking about self-care and productivity.
You know how when you are on the plane and they say to secure your oxygen mask first before assisting others. This is really what self-care is all about. If you don’t take care of yourself, who will? Sometimes you need to take those necessary steps to take care of yourself before you can be of service to others. Here are some ways to do just that.
Five Self Care Tips to Try
1. Read a book.
Reading can be very relaxing. You got many options: physical, digital and audio. I need to make my own advice since I’ve been struggling to get back into reading. So I decided to give audiobooks through Audible a try.
2. Go for a walk.
They say you should take 10,000 steps per day to be considered active. With the use of step counters, smartphone or watches with apps, you can easily start counting. If you have any recommendations on iOS apps, please let me know.
3. Listen to a podcast
Podcasts are huge right now. I bet you can find plenty that matches your interests.
4. Reward yourself for crossing the finish line
We all need a little extra motivation. So why not give it to yourself. When you are setting those projects and goals for the month (quarter or entire year), add a due date and a reward that you will receive once you’ve completed it.
5. Turn your phone off
This by far is my favorite. We are so attached to our phones but it feels great to unplug. If you can not completely shut down your phone, then try turning off notifications or using the do not disturb feature on your phone. This way you limit distractions.
Doing more self-care is one of my goals and I hope this post has inspired you to look into adding some self-care to your day to increase productivity.
