Being a perfectionist is not only tough but also extremely hard to maintain. It’s worst when you have deadlines to beat. For me that is when Writer’s Block (and creative blocks) happens. Throughout the years I have figured out some ways to break through that block and get back to that creative state of mind I love so much. So if you find yourself banging your head against your desk or wall try these four tips out for size.
Four Tips to Help You Breakthrough
a Writer’s Block
Tip #1 Work from a different location
If you have a set workspace in your home, set up shop someplace else. Whether it’s someplace else within your home, right out side or a little further. Changing up your location can help refresh your mind and give you a different perspective. Don’t forget to make sure you have everything you need to be productive.
Tip #2 Keep an idea notebook
Sometimes you get hit with inspiration and you are not able to focus on it right then. Or you drop everything you are doing to focus on that idea. STOP! Just write it down and continue working as usual so when you do have time or are experiencing an block you can go back and revisit that idea.
Tip #3 Work on something else
Keep a running list of things you would like to work on or do in the future. When you are experiencing a block, refer to that list and work on taking care of the smaller things.
Tip #4 Take a break
Step away from whatever you’re working on. Just take a few minutes. You may want to play a game, exercise, or even try some meditation. Do something to get your brain thinking about anything other than what you are working on. Trying to force yourself to continue to work when nothing seem to be working will just lead to more frustrations.
